Experience so far suggests the average time it takes for symptoms to develop is 4 to 6 days after exposure, but it may be as short as 1 day or much longer. Because this is a new virus, we do not know enough to have a precise incubation period. If you live with other people and have symptoms, they’ll need to stay at home for 10 days from the start of your symptoms even if they don’t have symptoms themselves. They should book a test 3 to 5 days after your symptoms started. Even if they receive a negative result, they must still complete the 10 day isolation.
