Lipomas are best removed by surgery under anaesthetic. Lipomas can occur anywhere on the body. The most common locations are the arms, legs, shoulders, and the back of the neck just beneath the skin. It’s always best to get a lump checked out, even if you think it’s nothing to worry about. We normally use local anaesthetic, meaning you only need to come in as a day case patient (you don’t need to stay overnight). It’s better to have peace of mind and early diagnosis than to run the risk, however small, of waiting until it’s too late.
