    Because they are thinner, modification of the original tooth is usually not necessary. While veneers may use composite materials, only Cerinate® porcelain is used for Lumineers, which is typically the width of the average contact lens. The porcelain used in Lumineers is so thin that it appears nearly translucent, which allows the Lumineers to successfully mimic the color of a real tooth and avoid appearing “fake” as a few veneers do. Porcelain is the only material used in Lumineers.
